Haha!
I didn't figure out to drag the door until I read the posts!
I thought the joke was that the doorbell rang but no one ever answered the door!

about half of the freeway exits i get off at have someone there begging.
in the past i felt they were only hitting me up for money to by drugs or booze so i rarely handed them any.
in this economy i'm wondering if some of them aren't really in need of something to eat.
For some reason I seem to attract the brazen kind that come to my vehicle, sometimes while I have children in there.
They scare the bejeebers out of me! I give them usually enough to go buy a little off the value menu...just enough to get me out of the situation safely. You never know how some people will react.
I've had people ask while I was parking at the hotel. I figured a couple bucks was better than returning to slit tires.
~ Sigh~
I feel the victim of a crime. I hate it.
I've also seen people who I feel a very kind love for. They don't approach people. They try to be independant and work (collecting bottles) for themselves. We had one man we called affectionately "Whell-barrow man". Everyone around town knew him! When his wheel barrow broke, a local hardware store gave him a new one with their logo on it. Free advertisement, but the man needed it. It was part of his daily activities. I miss him. We moved, I hope he is still pushing that around! God bless Wheel Barrow Man. Everyone knew him.
I am more apt to help someone not asking. I think most that I see are con artists.
I will not give to anyone with a sign. He's probably wearing better shoes than me!
i knew a few families that wink wink did not celebrate gift giving for christmas.
instead, they celebrated "family day".
.
We started doing it for our kids when they were really little.
We were having doubts, but hadn't really come to terms with it yet. We didn't want our kids to miss out on the joy and love that other children had in the holidays they were able to look forward to.
We also started a yearly congregation tradition of inviting everyone over in the fall for an outdoor party. We really tried to give people something to look forward to and enjoy recreation together.
It was nice. Thankfully we were able to break free and have the mainstream holidays. I am so glad that we put ourselves out there to try to do something for our children. We didn't get that as children and we didn't want ours to go without anything. (I'm thinking of the post where it talked about children saying "we get presents all year. We don't need Christmas." Yeah. Right. Who exactly got these presents all year? It sure wasn't hubby or I!)
a hard cover copy of steven hassan's "releasing the bonds" and a huge cofee mug that says "exjw university ---established in 1914" came in the mail today from jwn poster outatlast.
and he wasn't even my secret santa.
thanks, oal.
Ahahahahaha! I want a mug like that! That's awesome! Enjoy!
"look what i got tommy, it was present day at out house today.
we don't need no silly ol' christmas, we get gifts all year long.
anyway...today i got a new bookbag and a new "your yute, getting the best out of it" book.
I always used to wonder who the kids were that got presents all year! It sure didn't happen at our house!
We got a new dress for the district convention. Not really a toy
When we got older, a friend of my mom's talked about how they gave their kids presents on the parent's anniversary. It was the first time since being JW we actually had something to look forward to!
At least we had a grandmother who would buy us things and a dad that made sure we had bikes and outdoor toys! My mother sure wasn't generous. She counted every penny we owed her. We also didn't get an allowance. If I wanted something, I had to skip eating lunch at school and save my money. She was a real Scrooge.
a semi-serious request.. i hate exercise (yes i am an indolent slob), i sit in an office or a car most of the time and eat and drink too much.
so my new year's resolution is to lose weight (about 3 stone would be good) to try and prolong my life a little since i ain't got eternity in mind anymore.
i am looking for fun ways to get fit, or an effective home based diet programme that has worked for other people.
When I lost weight 15 years ago, I walked until I was up to a 45 minute to one hour walk daily. And I cut out a lot of foods!
I can't do that again! I love food too much...as the weight I carry shows.
I got a Wii Fit Plus for Christmas. It's only been two days, but I really like it! I aim to spend a good half hour daily on it. It is very fun! I never imagined how fun it could be!
I can do it at home no matter the weather. No mean dogs to chase me. There does seem to be a little dog that follows you on some of the exercises, but he's not going to jump off the TV and bite me!
The whole family has been using it! I imagine it is going to get worn out!
The activities are so varied, you can choose from so many. The exercises don't take too long and you are soon up to a half hour! It also weighs you, gives you your BMI and counts the estimated calories you have burned and the time you have been exercising. It's a gym at home! I love it!
We all ready had the Wii system ($199) and the Wii Fit Plus was about $90-100. Probably comparable to a year gym membership, but you can do it in your jammies and don't have to drive anywhere!
I am teasing the kids that when they go back to school, I'll be playing at home!
i found this picture on facebook.. but i wanted to ask everyone a question.
how many people here remember a moment in their young adult life at the conventions like this?.
[picture removed - it's unclear if this is publicly available or copied without permission - simon].
My first "JW mindset" thought was...the one young man in the middle, on the left, has hair that is too long. He's going to get a talking to by the elders soon!
we were having a wonderful christmas until some relatives came to see us.
we put away the tree and everything so they wouldnt b stumbled.
i swear they came to see if we were doing anything non jw.
I used to hide EVERYTHING that might remotely offend! All books that were religious in nature, any holiday decoration, kids birthday cards...you name it I hid it.
We only had a visitor a couple times a year due to the distance between all of us.
One day, I decided we are who we are. They know our stand. I'm not hiding it. If they don't like it...too bad. I've even considered doing a christmas theme in my kitchen to keep up year round!
We worked ourselves silly getting Christmas decorations put away one year to just have my mom say she wouldn't talk to us anymore and stay in their motorhome the whole time my dad (non JW) visited for a few days. Might as well have left it all up!
It takes time to come to terms with everything and take your stand. Funny saying. Take your stand. Just be who you are and enjoy your family. That is, if you are ready to deal with any fallout.
We are who we are and there's nothing wrong with that. We can enjoy life free from fear. It just takes time to get there. Keep climbing those mountains! The view is great at the top!
since my fade, i have decided to do what all jw men and some jw women do.
i have grown a beard.
i have more compliments on it from people i work with and come in contact with than ever before.
And the beards look wonderful on all of you!
But I guess that Leprechaun wins hands down! *giggle*

Hubby got the beard (had the mustache). Looks great on him!
He's a bit bummed I won't let him grow it out like the guys from ZZ Top!
I'll just have to tell him that would too much like the Pharisees!
